RADIESSE More Effective Than Restylane As Reported In A 60-Patient ...

BioForm Medical, Inc. (Nasdaq: BFRM) announced the publication of a post-marketing multi- center, randomized, blinded comparative study of nasolabial fold treatments reporting that RADIESSE(R) dermal filler was found to be significantly more effective than Restylane(R), the leading dermal filler on the market worldwide. The results of this study will be published in the February 2008 Issue of the Journal of Dermatologic Surgery, a peer-reviewed publication of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery.

This study is the first published direct comparison study of RADIESSE dermal filler against Restylane. The study concluded that 1) patients preferred RADIESSE dermal filler two to one over Restylane, 2) patients reported higher satisfaction and indicated they were substantially more likely to return for future treatments with RADIESSE filler than with Restylane, 3) at all time points through 12 months (9 months after the second injection), RADIESSE filler was found to provide greater improvement than Restylane in nasolabial fold ratings assessed by a blinded evaluator at each site, and 4) both products were safe and had similar adverse events related to local injection site events typical of dermal fillers.

MontaVista beefs up carrier-grade Linux

The new release is based on the Linux 2.6.21 kernel, but includes a number of patches and features from the 2.6.22 release. Also included are the Glibc 2.5.90 Linux libraries and the GC 4.2.0 compilers. Many of the changes are aimed at making the operating system still more reliable and resilient, and at simplifying an array of application development tasks.

The previous release, Version 4.0, achieved what the vendor says is 99.999% uptime, a key milestone for carrier-quality operating systems. That percentage translates into less than 31.5 seconds of downtime yearly, according to Dan Cauchy, director of marketing for MontaVista's carrier and mobile group.

The company offers an array of Linux platforms, including one aimed at smartphones and another at real-time embedded systems.

A battery of real-time enhancements that had been in the past applied as a separate patch are now integrated with the kernel, making it possible for other parts of the software system to make use of them.

Mizuno mixes it up

For years, Chuck Couch, Mizuno Golf's marketing director, heard the wistful refrain from ordinary golfers.

I wish I was skilled enough to play those beautiful Mizuno blades.

But these days, he's increasingly hearing a different tune.

“I'll now run into someone in the airport, and they'll say, ‘I've got some MX-25 irons and I love them,' " says Couch, referring to the brand's game improvement franchise.

What Mizuno is experiencing is a shift in consumer perception of its brand. And it's a pleasant surprise for the company, which has achieved success on its reputation as a better player's club but struggled to broaden its appeal.

The irony is, Mizuno wasn't looking to reinvent itself when it launched the MX line in 2001.

The software and hardware bundles will form a key part of the vendor's strategy, according to John Gromala, director of ProLiant server product marketing at HP.

Gromala told vnunet.com that the new servers will be offered with "blueprint" software bundles tailored for Microsoft Exchange Server or Citrix.
