The servers will be bundled with software and services tailored for companies which need larger systems but lack the IT resources to manage them. HP will unveil four rack-mounted ProLiant server models offering new processors and larger storage capacities than their predecessors. New software includes an updated version of HP's Lights Out tool which allows the servers to be managed remotely. The software and hardware bundles will form a key part of the vendor's strategy, according to John Gromala, director of ProLiant server product marketing at HP. FDA Goes After 'Natural' HRT Claims
Jan. 9, 2008 -- Federal regulators warned several pharmacy companies Wednesday to stop marketing so-called "natural" hormone replacement therapy, calling their sales to women "false and misleading." The FDA took aim at seven compounding pharmacy companies that it says use a product called estriol in reformulated hormone replacement therapy for women. The agency warned the pharmacies to cease marketing HRT containing estriol and to stop making claims that their products are "natural" or "bioequivalent" to standard HRT. "Estriol has not been approved by the FDA in any dose for any use," says Debra Autor, director of the office of compliance in the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. Autor says the agency has "no reliable scientific evidence" that estriol is safe and effective and that claims made by the seven pharmacies, mostly in Internet marketing, are "false and misleading." Some doctors rely on a cottage industry of compounding pharmacies to reformulate medications in concentrations, amounts, or preparations that are not available on the regular U.S.
NY Attorney General probes drug companies on Vytorin claims
ALBANY, N.Y. - New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo on Saturday said he has subpoenaed drug companies as part of an investigation into whether they concealed the results of research that found a brand-name drug was no more effective than a cheaper, generic alternative. Cuomo said his office is investigating whether Merck & Co., Schering-Plough Corp. and a joint venture of the two companies defrauded consumers and investors with their aggressive marketing of the cholesterol-lowering drug Vytorin. Last week, the two companies released partial data from a study that showed Vytorin didn't reduce plaque buildup any more than a generic alternative that costs about two thirds less. .
