Microsoft Broadens Virtualization Strategy Beyond Data Center
Microsoft's forceful move into virtualization with Windows Server aims to bring virtualization to the data center masses, but that's only part of the puzzle. Microsoft wants virtualization to change the way IT works from the data center to the desktop. The company announced Monday it was buying Calista Technologies, which makes presentation virtualization technologies, for an undisclosed sum. It also announced simplified licensing for virtualization that will allow all versions of Windows desktop to be virtualized, support for running Office in a virtualized environment, an expanded alliance with Citrix Systems to include co-marketing and co-sales in virtualization, lower pricing to run Windows clients remotely in virtualized instances, and new deployment tools. That's a host of announcements, and the fact that most of them aren't directly related to forthcoming Windows Server virtualization is a sign that Microsoft has much more than just the corridors of the physical data center in mind for its virtualization strategy.

Ah yes, the Make Poverty History (MPH) campaign surely this year's all-time low point. Well, lets give credit where credit's due, or indeed debt relief where its due. MPH was a campaign to raise aid and reduce debt and in this it succeeded. What you make of its activities will depend first on how central you think aid is to tackling poverty in Africa and second on whether the ends apparently achieved justified the means of the campaign. Expectations that more aid for Africa will do all the things the campaigners promise and what previous aid has failed to achieve represents the triumph of hope over experience.
Pakistan missile strike kills 12 in new violence
A US Predator drone targeted al-Qaeda's deputy leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in January 2006, killing several rebels but missing him. In December 2005, Egyptian al-Qaeda explosives specialist Hamza Rabia was killed in a blast in North Waziristan. Residents said it was a missile strike but the military insisted he was killed by one of his own bombs. Meanwhile, in the neighbouring tribal region of South Waziristan, the army said a soldier was killed in heavy fighting at Shishamwan village early on Tuesday. Militant casualties "could not be ascertained", an army statement said. Clashes in the same region on Monday also claimed the life of a soldier. South Waziristan is the stronghold of shadowy tribal warlord Baitullah Mehsud, who has been accused by Pakistan and the US Central Intelligence Agency of masterminding Bhutto's assassination on December 27.
Yankton Group Wants To Attract Young Professionals
