In '08, New Orleans Tops Stern's List of Concerns

It is that time of year when the State of the Union, State of the State, and State of the City speeches are delivered. In about a month, the commissioner of the NBA, David Stern, will be delivering his own assessment of how the league is doing prior to the NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans on February 17. But Stern gave a little preview of what he will tell his owners and the press last week during a marketing promotion at the league's Fifth Avenue store.

"Well, our finances are good and up," Stern said. "Our basketball is great. Some of our teams are struggling at the gate we have a half a dozen teams or so that are having some problems but at the same time, we have 15 teams that have sold over 10,000 season tickets. So it is really a double tale, so to speak. But overall, business is great, ratings are strong, and attendance remains very strong."

Stern's "double tale" reference doesn't completely cover the business of the NBA.

"We're going to Dubai," Gerrity said. "Many people just have no idea the many major projects they [HHCP] have done, and are doing, outside the U.S.," Gerrity told the Orlando Sentinel.

TiVo wants its partnership with Comcast, which runs at least until 2014, to be a model for other cable deals that offer access to millions of new customers. "Being able to port software into somebody else's box opens up a way to begin total integration of cable services into TiVo," CEO Tom Rogers says. "A lot of elements make it quite important."

Prioritizing your web to-do list

Identifying the top priorities for web development involves balancing both customer needs and business goals. Taking this simple approach will help.

Teams that manage a website, either internally or externally, are likely to have a long list of changes or feature additions for the site. Prioritizing which features to develop is often a challenge, especially if there are different stakeholder groups represented on the web team. Marketing representatives will place value on projects that drive traffic to the site or enhance the brand attributes; technical resources will value projects that make the site more efficient or easier to maintain; usability specialists will focus on features they know will align the site with customer desires.

To understand each element, web teams can conduct research.
